Denmark – Part 1

Most of you know that I have been living in Copenhagen for the last few months and I want to share my experiences of being here. Copenhagen is a beautiful city with a rich history. Originally a Viking fishing village established in the 10th century in the vicinity of what is now Gammel Strand, Copenhagen became the capital of Denmark in the early 15th century. Today it is a hub of new business startups and a world class education system.  I would like to start this series of blogs with some of my photography from around the city. This is a picture I took of the Little Mermaid by Edvard Eriksen, or  lille Havfrue in Danish. Not only is there no-one in this picture, there is a swan who happened to be swimming past at that time.

This one is a little closer to home. This in the Christmas tree in our communal garden in Amager. Communal spaces in my area tend to have play areas for the children, and somewhere to sit and relax.

A more famous image, this is Nyhavn at dusk. At this is near to Christmas, there is a Julemarked all the way along Nyhavn down to Kongens Nytorv. I did my Christmas shopping here! Great for warm mugs of gløgg, nordic Chritmas jumpers and gifts.

This is Amagerbrogade, the main shopping street in Copenhagen. This is one of the longest streets in Denmark and goes from Christenshavn to Tårnby.

Lions at Copenhagen zoo. This is a great place to take the kids, with a children’s zoo and lots of animals to interact with.
